Sensex closed flat with a gain of 13 points at 22,715 after hitting a new high in the morning session. The benchmark Sensex opened on the positive note at 22,729 against the previous close of 22,702. The index made a high of 22,792 and low of 22,644 before closing at 22,715.

Sensex gave out much of the gains recorded in the morning session as investors preferred to book profit after the recent rally in the market.

The turnover on BSE was high at Rs 3,600 crore against Rs 2,408 crore recorded on Wednesday.

On NSE, Nifty was flat with a gain of 0.20 points at 6,796.

Shares of Kotak Mahindra Bank and UltraTech Cement hit a record high on BSE. Hindalco Industries reversed its direction after scaling 52-week high of Rs 143. Larson & Toubro hit 52-week high at Rs 1,326.

Adani Enterprises spurted 23.15 per cent to Rs 470 after scaling a 52-week high of Rs 478 in intraday trade. Shares of Sun Pharmaceutical, which acquired Ranbaxy Lab, lost two per cent to Rs 616.

The major gainers Essar Oil (10%), Reliance Infra (9%), Bharat Elect (8%), Wockhardt (7%), Crompton Greaves (6%), Jaiprakash Association (6%), Adani Ports (6%), HDIL (5%), Max India (5%), Pipavav Defence (5%) and MCX (5%).

Prominent losers were TV18 Broadcast (-4%), Aurobindo Pharma (-4%), Strides Arco (-3%), Glenmark Pharma (-3%), Dr Reddys Lab (-3%) and Sobha Dev (-3%).
