Axis Bank rallied to close Tuesday's session as the top gainer on the BSE. Financial sector stocks continued to rule firm on the bourse, although auto stock Maruti Suzuki and power sector stock Tata Power Company had made sizeable gains by close.
At 3.30 p.m. the Axis Bank stock had extended its morning gains to end up 4.36 per cent at Rs 1,164, as against its previous close of Rs 1,115.35.
HDFC also built on its morning levels to trade at Rs 802.30, up 2.79 per cent on its overnight close of Rs 780.55.
Maruti Suzuki zipped up in the second half to hold gains of 2.69 per cent. It was quoting at Rs 1,710.90 as against its overnight close of Rs 1,666.10.
Tata Power Company was up 2.65 per cent at Rs 79.45 as against Rs 77.40 at close yesterday.
ICICI Bank traded firm to edge up to Rs 1,032.75, up 2.31 per cent on its previous close of Rs 1,009.45.
