Private sector lenders Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank were the predominant gainers on the BSE on Tuesday. However, pharma share Cipla led the pack with gains of 4.87 per cent. At 3 pm the share was trading at Rs 707.60 as against Rs 674.75 at close last week.
Axis Bank extended its morning rally to notch up gains of 4 per cent at Rs 587.60. The share had closed the previous week at Rs 565.
ICICI Bank was up 3.67 per cent at Rs 384.05 as against Rs 370.45 at the finish on Friday.
The market continued its uptrend on sustained capital flows and positive sentiment generated by quarterly earnings and expectations of the upcoming Budget. The BSE Sensex gained nearly 300 points to perch above the 29,500-level,while the NSE Nifty gained over 70 points to trade above the 8,900-level.
HDFC Bank moved up 2.89 per cent to trade at Rs 1,073 as against Rs 1,042.90 at close last week.
ITC rode up 2.79 per cent at Rs 359 as against its previous close at Rs 349.25.
