The markets, which fells sharply on a lacklustre Railway Budget, saw many of the top gainers in the morning session shed their gains by close.

At 3.05 pm, HDFC emerged the top gainer on the BSE, although it had trimmed part of its morning gains by late session. It was quoting at ₹1,028.10 as against ₹1,017.50 at close yesterday. This represented a gain of 1.04 per cent.

Pharma stock Sun Pharma Industries was also off its morning highs at ₹726.20, up 0.88 per cent on its earlier close of ₹719.85.

ITC was trading at ₹335.85, a gain of 0.37 per cent on Monday’s close at ₹334.60.

Hind Unilever also edged lower to trade at ₹627.50, up 0.21 per cent on its previous close of ₹626.20.

Infosys was barely changed at ₹3,344 as against ₹3,343.75 at close on Monday.
