Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd on Friday announced that ITC emerged the ‘Biggest Wealth Creator’ this year. ITC took the top slot for the first time, significantly improving its 7th rank in last year's study.
Motilal Oswal’s 17th annual study also saw the 8-year stranglehold of oil & gas companies broken. Reliance Industries had topped the list in the last 5 years, and ONGC in the three years prior to that.
In 2012, both Reliance and ONGC did not make it to the top 100 wealth creators due to market underperformance (2007-12 stock price CAGR was 4 per cent for ONGC and 2 per cent for Reliance v/s 6 per cent in the Sensex).
Consumer sector has bounced back into wealth creation – ITC is the largest wealth creator, TTK Prestige the Fastest and Hindustan Unilever is back in the top 10.
TTK Prestige was designated the ‘Fastest Wealth Creator’. Between 2007 and 2012, its stock price multiplied 24x, translating into annualised return of 89 per cent.
Kotak Mahindra Bank has retained its place as the ‘Most Consistent Wealth Creator’.
