Maruti Suzuki zipped up the BSE to emerge the top gainer ahead of the close on Thursday.

At 3.05 p.m. it held gains of 2.91 per cent to quote at Rs 1,779.75 as against Rs 1,729.40 at close on Wednesday.

Sesa Sterlite also traded firm to emerge among the top gainers near the close. It was trading at Rs 204.65 as against Rs 201.35 at close on Wednesday, representing a gain of 1.64 per cent.

The pharma and IT stocks that were the top gainers in the morning session, edged lower ahead of the close.

Sun Pharma was quoting at Rs 582 as against Rs 573.15 at close yesterday, a gain of 1.54 per cent.

Infosys was trading at Rs 3,508.30 as against Rs 3,457.80 at close on Wednesday, a gain of 1.46 per cent.

Jindal Steel also edged lower to quote at Rs 251.45 as against Rs 248.45 at close on Wednesday.

Wipro was trading at Rs 528.60, up 1.19 per cent on its overnight close of Rs 522.40.

Cipla held steady to quote at Rs 397.50 as against its previous close of Rs 393.05, a gain of 1.13 per cent .
