On a day when metal stocks flexed their muscle on the bourses, Tata Steel emerged the top gainer near the close on the BSE on Friday.

At 2.25 pm Tata Steel was trading at ₹364.25, up 4.07 per cent on its previous close of ₹350. Sesa Sterlite trooped up to quote at ₹178.35, a gain of 3.03 per cent on Thursday's close of ₹173.10. Hindalco Industries was firm but a tad easier on its morning levels. It was trading at ₹122.25, up 2.43 per cent on its overnight close of ₹119.35.

Wipro carried its recent firmness into trade today. It was quoting at ₹568.80, up 3.24 per cent on its overnight close of ₹550.95.

Axis Bank recovered from its early losses to catch up with the pack near the close. It was quoting at ₹1,397.95, up 3.03 per cent on its previous close of ₹1,356.85. The Government today sold 9 per cent stake in the bank in a block deal through SUUTI (Specified Undertaking of UTI).
