Giving a kick start to the New Year’s sentiments, NSE Nifty crossed the 6,000 mark at the end of the day. This is expected to usher positive sentiments in the markets for the days to come, said analysts.
The Nifty closed at 6,009.50, up 16.25 points, while the Sensex closed at 19,764.68, up 50.54 points. The markets have been rallying over the past two days. Nifty had touched the 6,000 mark in Wednesday during intra-day trade.
The Oil & Gas index was up 1.37 per cent, followed by Teck and IT indices. The top gainers were Dr Reddys Lab, Bharti Airtel and ONGC, while the top losers were Tata Power, Sun Pharma and Maruti.
