Tata Power made rapid gains to emerge the top gainer on the NSE in late trading on Thursday.
At 3.15 p.m. it held gains of 4.23 per cent to quote at Rs 89.90 as against Rs 86.25 at close on Tuesday.
Oil sector stocks ONGC and BPCL, among the top gainers in morning trade, held firm but were off their early highs.
ONGC was quoting at Rs 292.55 as against Rs 285.75 at close on Tuesday. This represented a gain of 2.38 per cent.
BPCL shed a part of its morning gains to quote at Rs 353.70 or 1.64 per cent higher than its previous close of Rs 348.
HDFC Bank made strides on the NSE too quoting at Rs 669.40 or 1.84 per cent higher than its earlier close of Rs 657.30.
Tata Steel rode up 1.77 per cent to quote at Rs 425.80, as against its earlier close of Rs 418.40.
Wipro was also in positive territory, quoting at Rs 549.20 as against Rs 540.10 earlier, a gain of 1.68 per cent.
