`Intuitive and daring actions help'

MR `SUBBU' Subramaniam is an investment partner with Baring Private Equity Partners (India) Ltd. He is a chartered accountant, cost accountant, company secretary and an MBA from IIM, Ahmedabad. Mr Subramaniam is on the board of MphasiS BFL, Maples ESM and B&M Hot Breads. He has also served on the boards of Slashsupport, Cybernet Software Systems, Jyothy Laboratories, and SRA Systems.

Here is his take on four questions posed to him by Business Line:

i) Two things that my education/training taught me.

Change is the only permanent thing. Humility and teamwork are essential for success.

ii) Two things I learnt from my work/real life.

While a data-driven systematic approach to problem-solving works for managers in their tasks, intuitive and daring actions help entrepreneurs create businesses that change the way the world works. Expense budgets are always `met', it is usually the revenue numbers that few management teams achieve with élan!

iii) One quality I look for the most in a new recruit.

Attitude, attitude and attitude, to learn and work.

iv) A book that I read recently.

The Walmart Decade by Robert Slater
