`Never allow comparisons hurt you'

N. SUNDARARAJAN is the Company Secretary and Head of Internal Audit of Ashok Leyland. Also a cost accountant and an MBA (XLRI), he has worked with Tata Steel, MRF, Nippo Batteries and Sundaram Industries (TVS Tread)..

He is the president of the Madras Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors-India.

Here is his take on four questions posed to him by Business Line:

Two things that my education/training taught me.

To respect the education, knowledge and experience of others — in different areas. You can then learn from them.

There can be several viewpoints on any issue — except perhaps in exact sciences — and some of them may be more correct than your own.

Two things I learnt from my work/real life.

Intellectual integrity and conviction about what is right are fundamental qualities that are not to be compromised.

Never allow comparisons with others hurt or demotivate you. Be grateful to God for what he has given you — that is what you deserve.

One quality I look for the most in a new recruit.

Professional loyalty and commitment to the organisation.

A book that I read recently.

Parkinson's Law or the Pursuit of Progress.
