Challenging recipe for a bored CA

I am a chartered accountant with six years industrial experience in accounting. I feel I am stuck in my career. My job is routine and monotonous. There is no challenge. What I should I do?

A. Das, Kanpur

Considering your strong accounting background you may do well if you take up on part-time basis a course in ERP implementation in the domain of accounting — comprising accounts receivables, accounts payables, general ledger and cash management — from an established institution.

You may look at mySAP/Oracle Financials for this purpose, as a lot of opportunities are emerging. With this new knowledge, you can get into any company having the same ERP platform with which you are conversant.

After gaining in-depth hands-on experience for about one year, you can also decide as to whether you have a flair for ERP consultancy as a functional consultant. Also, you can also look at better career prospects within the industry which may fulfil your aspirations.

Retail management

I got admission in masters in retail management and marketing in ITM, Mumbai, and I want to know the career prospects regarding this course before I take admission.

Sandeep, e-mail

The retail industry is booming in our country and many leading industrial houses are venturing into it. E- retailing adds an interesting dimension.

A Masters programme in this domain definitely makes one ready for the challenges of this industry. If you are passionate about retailing, you can confidently take it up.

The career prospects are attractive.
