Management Do what you say
MS AARTI GUPTA
Ms Aarti Gupta, is Global Head, Learning and Culture, Kanbay. She is the Vice-President of National Human Resources and Development Network, Pune Chapter. Two things that my education/ training taught me: No question is too stupid or too silly to ask. It does take courage, to ask simple questions! If I spent 20-30 minutes everyday just going through what I had learnt during the day, I never had to study or cram for an exam. Even today, I am more effective when I spend 20-30 minutes on my drive home reflecting on my day and creating my priorities. Two things I learnt from my professional/personal life: It is not just what you say that matters but also how you say it. You can have the greatest of ideas but if you don't pay attention to how you communicate them, your ideas may never get implemented. Saying what you do and doing what you say go a long way in building credibility as a leader. One quality I look for the most in a new recruit: The ability to adapt to change. This requires two things an open and flexible attitude, and high aptitude to be able to spot the implications of the change and adapt proactively rather than react to change. A book that I read recently: Monday Morning Leadership by David Cottrell
