Human Resources Columns - Soft Skills Qualities of a leader
In today's corporate environment, what are the qualities a good leader should possess? N. Ravi Some of the qualities that we need in today's highly competitive and stressful working environment are: Have a positive attitude in stressful situations. Be creative in your approach to finding solutions. Believe in the saying: There's always a better way of doing anything. There is no replacement to intelligence and knowledge. You need to have answers for others' queries. You should have the ability to stimulate, excite and motivate others. Flexibility is very important as the environment and requirements are dynamic. You should be willing to adapt to situations. Be strong against adversity and pressure. All leaders need to soak pressure from both ends. Reliability and integrity are the proven traits of leaders. Believe in delegation.
`No' to boss?
How can I say "No" to my Boss?
Abijith A This is one of the most common questions that I come across. Most people have a fear that if we say `No', the boss he will not appreciate it.take it negatively. This I feel is not true in most cases. Saying `No' is not that problematic, but the way you say it may lead to a negative response. First do not give a negative response immediately. Take time, think and plan if you can meet the expectation. If not, then be willing to share the reasons why you will not be able to do it and be open to (in fact ask for) suggestions as to how you could still meet the expectation with the given constraints and priorities that you may have. `No' should always be said pleasantly and in an unapologetic manner. You and your boss are after all working for the same goals!
