Have an open mind

Mr Deven Patil

Mr Deven Patil heads the India operations of Transitions Optical, one the world's leading plastic photochromic lens manufacturing companies. He has a Masters degree in Management from Sydenham Institute of Management, Mumbai. Here's his take on four questions from Business Line:

Two things that my education/training taught me:

Every issue can be addressed in multiple ways, and there is no single given way of accomplishing a task.

Discipline and commitment are two core values that can make the most difficult task achievable.

Two things I learnt from my work/real life:

Have an open mind, and be willing to try different approaches. Keep picking up nuggets on varied subjects and use lateral thinking.

God is in the details.

One quality I look for the most in a new recruit:

Positive thinking and passion towards one's work.

A book that I read recently:

The World is Flat, by Thomas Friedman.
