Introspect to better yourself

Mr Bala J. Raman

Mr Bala J. Raman is Co-Founder and President, Congruent Solutions. He has a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Delhi College of Engineering and a Masters degree in Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIMC). Here's his take on four questions from Business Line:

Two things that my education/ training taught me:

You can kid everyone except the `guy in the mirror'! So, use introspection to better yourself everyday.

Do not keep focusing on `features' — focus on `benefits': the number one mantra of management education.

Two things I learnt from my work/real life:

You work with and work for `people' and not `organisations' and it is important to be a `good listener' to be able to lead them and work with them.

"It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness." This statement by Florence Nightingale has been both a source of inspiration as well as a wonderful mantra to live life by.

One quality I look for the most in a new recruit:

Passion for what he or she does.

A book that I read recently:

Blue Ocean Strategy, by W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne.
