Part-time or Distance MBA?

I am a software engineer. I have two-and-half years experience. I am confused whether to take up part-time MBA (three years) or Distance MBA. The part-time course will require me to attend classes in the evenings. But I am not sure if that will be feasible. I would have to leave office by 6 p.m., which will impact my performance appraisals and I won't be able to take up additional responsibilities. In short, in these three years of part-time MBA, my growth in my current firm will be hampered. With this sacrifice, is the part-time MBA degree that I will earn after three years worth it? The other option is Distance MBA. This seems to be feasible but is it of any worth? Will it add any value to my career? Do employers consider such Distance MBA degrees seriously? Or, should I opt for the part-time MBA?

While a full-time MBA is the best choice, if you have to choose between a part-time and a distance education course, the former is preferable. The advantage with a part-time MBA is that you will have better faculty interaction, good academic environment, industry recognition and placement potential. Of course, the institution where you propose to study is very important.

You need to properly balance your work and study. This requires effective time management. You may also take special permission from your current employer for some flexibility in the work timings. By studying MBA, your efficiency and contribution to your employer will definitely increase. Hence, you need not be anxious about your performance. Considering the long-term career growth opportunities, you may go in for part-time MBA from a good institution.
