Implementation is the key

Mr A. Satish Kumar is Managing Director of Henkel India Ltd, a subsidiary of the German consumer goods major, Henkel KGaA. An MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and an alumnus of Columbia University's Senior Executive programme, he has over 20 years experience in the industry.

Mr Satish Kumar was instrumental in setting up the Henkel business in India beginning with implementation of production facilities, developing a National Sales and Distribution Network, integrating the acquisition of Shaw Wallace's Consumer Products Division and the launch of Henkel's well known International brand Fa. Here's his take on four questions on Business Line:

Two things that my education/ training taught me:

Move from linear physical sciences to the non-linear management sciences

Personality development

Two things I learnt from my work/ real life:

All of us are good at strategising. Often it is in implementation that we fail.

You have to unlearn, learn and unlearn continuously in your career.

One quality I look for the most in a new recruit:

Personal integrity and honesty

A book that I read recently:

The Last Mughal by William Dalrymple
