Mentor - Human Resources
What after B.Com?

Iam in second year B.Com. An above-average student, I am interested in commerce. What are the options available to me after graduation?

Aftab Shaikh

First, you must wholly concentrate on your current course and try to improve your academic credentials. Also add something tangible to your CV in terms of extra-curricular activities. After B.Com you have a wide range of options. You can either go in for employment or pursue further studies.

In case you are interested in higher studies, you have two main options. One is to go in for a professional course such as Chartered/Cost Accountancy (CA/ ICWA) or Corporate Secretaryship (CS). You can qualify now itself for the entry into any of these depending upon your aptitude and interest. Of the above, from the long-term career point of view, CA would be best. But you have to put in considerable efforts and stay focused.

The other major alternative is to opt for a management course. You have to make tremendous preparations for the entrance examination, group discussion and interview to gain entry into a reputed Business School. You can specialise in Finance in MBA.

You must choose your career path depending upon what you want to achieve in life.

Make best use of the available time and move ahead.
