Education Columns - Career Crossroads CA as business analyst
I am 27 years old, and recently qualified as a chartered accountant. I have been recruited as a business analyst in a software company, which is into ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) implementation and catering to the mid-market segment. As an accountant, what are the career prospects I can expect in this field. What do I need to do to further my career? R. Chandrasekar
Joining as a business analyst is a good start for you. You have to first concentrate on the business vertical of your client organisation. You can specialise in the finance and controlling domain. This would encompass core business functions pertaining to financial accounting, costing and MIS. You need to focus on the business processes and the alignment of ERP to the specific business needs. A reasonable working knowledge in process mapping, querying and basic report writing would be of great help to you. You need to focus on presentation and communication skills besides learning the art of customer relationship building . You have to work towards acquiring these skill-sets After consolidating your current position, you can move to high-end ERP such as mySAP or the Oracle E-business suite in the finance and controlling domain. You can also specialise in business intelligence tools. Your role as a business/functional consultant in enterprise solutions would make your career interesting and rewarding. Your career path would be that of Module Leader/Project Manager over a period of time. S. KANNAN
