Enterprise SOA

I am an electronics engineer working in the high-tech service industry. I would like to know about Enterprise SOA? What are the career prospects in this domain?

S. Anand, Mumbai

Enterprise Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) represents an open IT architecture for developing services-based business solutions for an enterprise. It provides for greater adaptability and flexibility. Enterprise SOA facilitates creation of new applications on top of existing enterprise solutions leading to greater flexibility and effective cost control.

It ensures easy adaptation of the business processes, making possible the modelling and automation of the entire value network with greater speed and transparency. New customers can be attracted through web services in an efficient manner. Deployment of SOA is not to be considered as a quick fix and its benefits accrue significantly in the medium and long term.

In the competitive business environment, the focus of any enterprise is on agility, transformation and connectivity with the business partners. The attention has shifted from business process engineering to business network transformation. In this background, there is a lot of scope for SAP Enterprise SOA applications. SAP SOA is in the process of maturing with SAP Net Weaver as the technical platform. Attractive career prospects can be envisaged for SAP SOA consultants in the near future.
