Gender Columns - Sticklish Issues Are IT companies sensitive to the needs of women employees?
In any company, the human resource department is responsible for the working condition of its employees. The IT companies today are efficiently handling this critical issue, helping their women employees to balance life between work and home. It is the responsibility of the women employees to bring to the notice of their employers about their most felt needs. Most companies are bothered only about finishing deliverables and meeting deadlines. They don’t care much about their employees’ attendance. Women candidates prefer those companies that provide women-friendly facilities and the brand name also plays a key role. Of late, more women are joining the workforce as they posses the knowledge and experience. They should also be given the option of working from home. T.V. Foolproof system should be evolved and loopholes removed making the lives of women employees safer. R. These women need personal security, transport, adequate relaxation, etc. There have been reports of women employees facing problems at their workplace. It is also suggested that employees need periodic break from work to prevent burnout. Companies must understand the need for providing the basic facilities and should exhibit sensitivity on these issues. Though women have excelled in all aspects of life, they still face the challenge of managing the home and job fronts. So corporates should take a lenient view and allow them certain privileges and concessions. When there is a need for a woman to work overtime, companies must look into their security by, say, arranging for vehicles to drop them back. Most IT companies in India are providing good amenities for women and are taking extra safety measures. V.
