But contributions to national laboratories such as ICMR, ICSR, IIT, etc., are eligible for a weighted deduction of 125 per cent. I wonder why corporates are not unduly enamoured of it. Sambranth Sambrani, Patna This has got to do with acquisition of intellectual property rights. No company would be willing to sacrifice its intellectual property rights at the altar of tax benefits. A successful research by a national laboratory culminating in acquisition of patents would be a matter of pride for every citizen but then a company cannot be faulted for nursing the ambition of getting the patent itself.
