Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank (KVGB) to hire women business correspondents in select villages under its jurisdiction.
Launching the 'Bank Sakhi' programme at Adavi Somapura village in Gadag district, S Ravindran, Chairman of the bank, said that KVGB will hire 50 'Bank Sakhis' confining to nine districts under its jurisdiction. At present, the bank has hired 11 Bank Sakhis.
Underscoring the need for appointing adequate women business correspondents to ensure greater participation of women in financial Inclusion, Ravindran said it was far more important at this crucial juncture as the bank has to play a major role in motivating rural people to go for cashless transactions. He said that women are more committed to work, and they can excel in any field and can effectively deal with the people.
The bank is providing self employment opportunity for women and at the same time using their valuable services in inclusive growth, Ravindran said.
KVGB has 614 branches in Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Belagavi, Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts of Karnataka.
A 'Bank Sakhi' is an SHG member involved in conducting banking and book keeping activities of the self-help group. She will also provide a range of financial services on behalf of the bank to her community and is paid commission by the bank for her service.
