Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today laid the foundation stone for the Manuguru thermal power plant in Khammam district of the State.

The Bhadradri thermal power plant with 1080 mw capacity is being developed by TS Genco in partnership with BHEL, its EPC contractor, and finance from Rural Electrification Corporation and Power Finance Corporation.

Speaking at the site, the Chief Minister said the plant would be developed on a fast track mode and hoped that the State would become a power surplus State within next three years.

He said REC and PFC had committed an investment of Rs 40,000 crore for development of TS Genco projects and all out efforts are now underway to significantly boost the power generation capacity.

The Chief Minister said Telangana would have an installed capacity of about 24,000 mw by 2018-19, including various thermal, hydel power projects and renewable energy projects including solar PV units, making it a power surplus State and an ideal investment destination for industries.
