Four years after the then ruling Congress forced the Public Accounts Committee to dump its report on the 2G spectrum scam, the present committee is dusting it out.

PAC chairman KV Thomas said the panel will look into the report and table it in Parliament at the earliest. Thomas said the current PAC is working as a continuation of the earlier committee, headed by Murli Manohar Joshi.

“Joshi had completed taking evidences on the subject and had placed the report before the members. It was not adopted by the panel. We will study the report and adopt it,” Thomas told reporters on Monday.

BJP members, who have a majority in the panel, have apparently asked the Chairman for a review of the report. Sources in the PAC said Thomas had discussed the issue with Joshi. “Though he was a Cabinet minister in the UPA government, Thomas has agreed that the report can be adopted after a discussion,” a BJP member in the panel said.

What draft report said

The draft report of the PAC, which recommended cancellation of 122 2G licences, had criticised the role of Finance Ministry and the Prime Minister’s Office on the matter. The PAC had also approved the CAG’s figure of loss that amounted to ₹1.76 lakh crore. This irked the Congress members in the panel and they did not allow the adoption of the report.

The member added that issues like call drops and net neutrality could be discussed along with the report.
