The Andhra Pradesh Government has set a target of achieving 100 per cent electrification of all the habitations in the State this year. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will declare electrification of all households at a meeting scheduled on June 8, 2016.

“The State is able to meeting the average daily demand for 158 million units from domestic and industrial segments, providing power round the clock. The Chief Minister has directed the discoms (power distribution companies) to continue the same tempo in the rest of the summer season,” a top government official has said in a statement on Saturday.

“The government has directed the discoms to achieve 100 per cent electrification of all households even in the remote tribal areas by May,” he said.

The State has so far electrified 1.37 lakh households during 2014-15 and 2.37 lakh households during 2015-16. “There is a balance of 2.09 lakh households to be connected by the end of next month,” Ajay Jain, Principle Secretary (Energy), has said.

He was addressing the staff of power utilities through teleconference on Saturday.
