The Andhra Pradesh Government has embarked on energy conservation measures, expectations from upcoming renewable energy projects and purchase of power, even as its industries reel under severe crisis.

The Government is hopeful of an addition of about 2,000 MW through the upcoming solar and wind power units. It is also seriously contemplating partnership with industries and other stakeholders for continuous deliberation on a long-term basis to provide some relief to all categories of consumers.

The Commissioner Industries Rajath Kumar informed a meeting of the State Energy Conservation Mission that a saving of about 4,820 million units of energy per annum in the industrial sector alone through conservation measures was possible

Interactive workshop

As a first step an interactive workshop jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry and the Industries Commissionerate was proposed on December 14 at the CII-Green Business Centre, a press release said.

The State Chief Secretary Minnie Mathew also the chairperson of SECM stated that the Government has been putting best efforts to meet the energy requirements of agriculture, domestic and industry categories with a slew of measures.

New policies

These include new policies for renewable energy, optimisation of generation from all existing generating units in Andhra Pradesh and even purchasing expensive power from outside the State.
