At a meeting with the Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, Ms Nicola Watkinson, Australian Minister - Commercial and Senior Trade & Investment Commissioner of Australia expressed willingness to engage with Gujarat on sectors like mining, fisheries, dairy, academics and skill development and assist the state to develop modern practices.
On a courtesy visit to the Chief Minister on Tuesday, Ms Watkinson expressed eagerness to assist Gujarat in modernising the fisheries industry of the state and also to evolve the latest technology to avoid road accidents on highways in the state.
The Chief Minister discussed with the Australian Minister about the aspects of academic collaboration between Gujarat's universities and Australian universities to strengthen the academic structure with mutual contributions. She sought assistance from Australia on state's skill development programmes, establishment of centre of excellence for mining sector and also sports university in the state.
Impressed with the extent of women participation in the state’s animal husbandry sector, the Australian Commerce Minister showed keen interest in assisting Gujarat for development of dairy industry with the help of Australian experts. Ms Nicola also extended an invitation for a delegation from Gujarat to Australia for training in these areas.
Notably, Australia is the partner country for the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Investors' Summit in January 2015. The chief minister invited senior trade officials and Australian government representatives for the Summit.
