With New Year and Vaikunta Ekadasi falling on the same day, the Bangalore Police is not taking any chances. The police have deployed additional personnel and have also introduced unnamed aerial vehicles as part of crowd management.

Surveillance Bangalore City Police commissioner MN Reddi told reporters that by deploying aerial drones, new crowd-management and surveillance techniques are being introduced in the city.
The drones, which are to fly at a height of 50 to 100 m, will be used to capture live footage of crowd on the three major roads - MG Road, Church Street and Brigade Road.
The police have made arrangements to frisk suspected persons and unruly revellers as they gather in the city centre.
The police have equipped themselves with night-vision binoculars and have also erected 8-ft high watch towers at major junctions to monitor the crowd.
The Karnataka police has used similar techniques for crowd management in Mysuru during Dasara festivities.
