The Bay of Bengal depression has started on its journey southwest heading towards the east coast of India, an India Met Department outlook said this morning.

It assessed conditions as evolving suitably right for onset of monsoon rains over more parts of east-central and northeast Bay of Bengal during the next two days.

The homeward-bound depression is expected to trigger rain and thundershowers along the coast right from Odisha to Tamil Nadu coast during the next few days.

In fact, parts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have reported spells of thundershowers overnight into this morning.

The Met Department is of the view that the depression will weaken and wash over the Odisha coast in a subdued landfall.

But it will have cut a line of trough (elongated area of lower pressure) along the coast right until southeast Tamil Nadu. This area will witness increased rain/thundershower activity into the next week.

Global models continue to predict that the Andaman Sea may be readying up to host another low-pressure area during the next week.
