The BJP has gained out of anti-incumbency wave and a section of the Left Front vote-bank that has been against the Trinamool Congress, CPI(M) central committee member Rabin Deb told Business Line .
Initial trends suggest the Left Front to lead in just 2 of the 42 Parliamentary seats of the West Bengal.
According to him, the Left Front’s results in the state have been “unexpected and disastrous”.
“People who were anti-TMC went with the BJP. The swing was definitely in favour of the BJP. Plus some anti-Congress and anti-incumbency factor saw them perform well,” he said.
The vote share of the Left Front has seen a substantial decline with both the Trinamool and BJP gaining ground.
Asked about the Trinamool gaining ground, Deb said that the party had resorted to terror tactics and intimidation of voters. This has resulted in a vote surge for the ruling party.
