Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan has been roped in to urge people to speak better Hindi, Sushma Swaraj, External Affairs Minister announced on Monday.
Addressing a press conference to announce that the 10th World Hindi Conference will be held in Bhopal from September 10 to September 12, the minister said Bachchan will not be paid for attending the event, but will merely be given accommodation, travel expenses and transportation in Bhopal. Bachchan will speak on ‘Aiye acchi Hindi bole’ (let’s speak good Hindi), the Minister said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to inaugurate the event while Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will attend the closing ceremony. The 9th World Hindi Conference was held in 2012 in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is after a span of 32 years that the conference is being held in India. India hosted the 1st Hindi World Conference in Nagpur in 1975.
