In a novel initiative, the Bombay Stock Exchange training institute, BSE Institute, has trained a group of 40 young women on financial skills, soft skills and entrepreneurship in Nizambabad.

In Andhra Pradesh, more than 78.78 lakh people are classified as poor by the Planning Commission. Though the literacy rate in Nizamabad is well above the national average, it does not reflect in the quality and quantity of jobs available in the region, an official said.

"The social and economic conditions of young women in the region were so poor. It hampered their ability to start and develop their own business. Women, especially, have been facing severe problems in terms of financial stability. We decided on the initiative to empower these women with entrepreneurial skills and make them financially independent,'' the official said.

The BSE Institute decided to work on improving the state of women from backward classes through a seven-week training programme. The initiative was organised to train the group in basic finance and development of entrepreneurial skills.

The knowledge and skill driven camp was divided into three parts. The first step dealt with financial literacy. The first six weeks of the camp comprised partly of financial literacy, wherein students were given knowledge about basic finance.

The second part included teaching them about the importance of investing and saving. The third part catered to skill development and entrepreneurship. This course honed the entrepreneurial skills of the students, in a bid to help them gain financial independence.
