Cooking gas consumers will now get 12 cylinders of 14.2-kg at subsidised rate in a year, even if they don’t consume one bottle/month.

The Cabinet, in its meeting on Wednesday, decided that while 12 subsidised LPG cylinders a year will continue to be supplied to all domestic consumers, there will be no separate monthly restriction. This changes the earlier decision taken on February 28.

Briefing reporters, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said it was observed that if one had not taken one subsidised cylinder in one particular month, he would not get his quota during the remaining part of the year. “Now this has been removed,” he said.

Later, a statement issued by the Oil Ministry said this decision would alleviate difficulties faced by genuine LPG consumers as consumption was never exactly one per month. This change will meet genuine consumer requirements subject to their annual entitlement of subsidised cylinders, it added.

Road projects Meanwhile, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs decided to empower the Road Ministry to decide the mode of delivery of projects. Prasad said the Ministry itself will decide whether the project has to be executed on BOT (Bulit-Own and Transfer) mechanism or through public-private partnership.

The Ministry will also have the power to amend the Model Concession Agreement in consultation with the Committee of Secretaries headed by the Cabinet Secretary. Earlier, the power about deciding the mode was with the Cabinet.

Prasad said the decision had been taken to fast-track the projects.
