An undisclosed income of ₹90,000 crore was detected during 2013-14, according to KV Chowdary, Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, he said the I-T Department had conducted surveys in 5,327 cases.

“The main sectors in which undisclosed income was detected were power, mobile phone trading, real estate, iron and steel and chemicals,’’ he added.

Search operations were conducted in 569 groups which resulted in seizure of assets worth ₹808 crore and admission of unaccounted income of ₹19,792 crore, he said.

There was 13 per cent increase in the e-filing of returns which ended on July 31, 2014 at 1.50 crore. “The total of number of this year’s filings is yet to be ascertained as there would be manual submissions of returns as well,’’ Chowdary said. The number of tax-payers last year was 3.50 crore.

Tax target The target for tax collections for the current financial year was pegged at ₹7,36,000 crore, up 15 per cent from last year’s target.

As on date, the collections amounted to 10 per cent but the department was confident of reaching the target.

The I-T Department would be opening 70 new ‘Ayakar Seva Kendras’ this year. At present, there are 290 centres to provide single-window service for the tax payers.
