The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested Debabrata Sarkar, a senior official of the East Bengal football club.
This will be the first arrest by the CBI in the multi-crore Saradha Scam.
According to CBI spokesperson, the arrest was made after CBI carried out searches at his residence. Incriminating documents along with FDs worth Rs 25 lakh were also said to be recovered from his residence, officials said.
Sarkar is one of the accused who conspired with the Saradha Group top brass in misappropriation of funds of the company.
The Saradha Group that went bust in April 2013 had been carrying out various ponzi and money collection schemes in West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Tripura and Odisha.
