A National Consumer Helpline (NCH) will be opened in five new regional centres to give priority to customers and resolve issues, said RC Chaudhury, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

Addressing the Confederation of Indian Industry Obsession Award 2016 last week in New Delhi, Chaudhury said consumers can register their complaints at the NCH, which will help resolve them. This is in line with the new Consumer Protection Bill, 2017 that seeks to protect consumers from misleading advertisements.

In the extremely competitive market, companies should strive for achieving excellence in service and make customer protection a priority, he said in a press release.

The CII Obsession Award recognises organisations that deliver a superior customer experience. Large business organisations in the services sector recognised for Active Customer Engagement were Kasturi & Sons Ltd (The Hindu Group), Bangalore International Airport, GMR Hyderabad International Airport, YES Bank, Axis Bank, Tata Teleservices (DoCoMo), Aditya Birla Financial Services and Manipal Global Education Services Pvt Ltd.

Large business organisations recognised for customer centric services were HP India, Jubilant Foodworks (Domino’s Pizza India), State Bank of India and Wipro GE Health Care Service Division.
