The final report of the Chief Ministers’ sub-group on skill development will be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi within a fortnight. This was decided at the sub-group’s final meeting, convened by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, at the NITI Aayog here on Tuesday.

The meeting, attended by the Chief Ministers of Assam, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, Tripura and Goa, and representatives of other member States, discussed the draft report. It will incorporate views shared by some members in the final report, an official release said.

Skill development The talks centred on strengthening State Skill Development Missions, participation by women and other socio-economic groups, and tackling shortage of trainers by involving the industry, among others.

The sub-group was also in favour of 50 per cent of the corporate social responsibility fund being earmarked for skill development.

PTI reports: NITI Aayog will organise a workshop on September 2 to bring together States, urban local bodies (ULBs), central ministries and other stakeholders to deliberate on various aspects of smart cities.

The workshop “Transforming Urban India: Developing Smart and Sustainable Cities” will provide a platform for exchange of ideas and knowledge among key stakeholders on issues related to the development of smart and sustainable cities, a statement said. Bengaluru-based Centre for Study of Science, Technology and Policy is the knowledge partner for this event.

Under the Smart Cities Mission the Centre and States have been entrusted with selecting and developing 100 smart cities nationwide. The primary focus of the workshop is to encourage the participants to ideate on some of the critical aspects that enhance the quality of life in a city and make a city sustainable and therefore, smart.

It is expected that the deliberations at the workshop will help in the development of a robust project and implementation framework.
