To sensitise fishermen on coastal security, a Coast Guard team on Tuesday started a three-day-long campaign.
Comprising 20 personnel from Coast Guard, marine police and fishing community, the team is travelling on 10 motorcycles through Haldia-Contai-Digha before returning to Kolkata covering a distance of approximately 450 km.
The campaign is also aimed at sensitising the fishing community who remain in the sea for long time and integrating them into the coastal security mechanism as its ‘Eyes and Ears’, defence officials said.
During the campaign the teams will visit fishing hamlets en route undertaking community interaction programmes.
They will also conduct medical check-up camps with the assistance of medical teams from Coast Guard and Calcutta Medical Research Institute, who are accompanying them in an ambulance.
The campaign will end at Kolkata on January 29, 2015.
