Curfew was imposed in the entire Kashmir Valley today as authorities apprehended law and order problem in the wake of Afzal Guru’s execution, even as Chief Minister Omar Abdullah arrived here to personally monitor the situation.
As a pre-emptive measure, all 10 districts of Kashmir was brought under curfew before day break, a senior police official said.
Large number of police and CRPF personnel have been deployed across the Valley to maintain law and order, the official said.
Attempts were made to break curfew in Sopore (the hometown of Afzal Guru) and Baramulla, police said, adding that security personnel fired in these two places.
Omar arrived here at 8.00 AM to personally monitor the situation. He will be briefed by senior officials of civil administration and police about the situation, official sources said.
Meanwhile, authorities have directed cable TV operators not to air news on channels as it could lead to flare-up in the situation.
