Dairy cooperative infrastructure and equipment will be upgraded in milk producers’ unions across the State at a cost of ₹35.77 crore, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa announced in the Assembly on Monday.
A range of equipment including coolers, packaging and processing units will be upgraded in Salem, Erode, Coimbatore, Villupuram and Vellore milk producers cooperative unions.
Modern labelling units — including thermal transfer for overprinting equipment — will also be provided.
This will benefit 2.26 crore milk producers and 5.13 lakh consumers, she said.
Cattle feed productionThe cattle feed production unit at Erode milk union will be expanded at a cost of ₹10.73 crore to produce 150 tonne of feed daily. This will benefit 4.29 crore dairy farmer members.
The Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation, which operates the Aavin brand of milk and dairy products, procures over 23.22 lakh litres of milk daily, she said.
