The World Food India 2017, the mega event planned by Centre from November 3-5 in New Delhi, will showcase the strengths of the Indian food processing industry and connect the global and domestic players in the sector.

“We are eyeing $10 billion investment in food processing sector in next few years. The food processing industry can grow multi-fold in coming years as the government has come up with numerous schemes and initiatives to create the conducive business environment,” Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, told industry members at a roadshow in Bengaluru on Friday.

“Setting up of 42 mega food parks will create direct employment for up to 5 lakh people and benefit 25 lakh farmers. The aim of these mega food parks and SAMPADA scheme is to double farmers’ income,” she said.

The Centre had recently launched Scheme for Agro-Marine Produce Processing and Development of Agro-Processing Clusters (SAMPADA) with an aim to increase processed food output and reduce food wastage. About 80 international companies have confirmed their participation at World Food India and 30 global CEOs are expected to attend the event.

Karnataka Agriculture Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said the State has a huge potential in the food processing industry as it produces a variety of fruits, vegetables and grains.
