Students from Amrita University bagged five awards at the OMRG (One Moment of Robot Gallery) Asia 2016 competition in Singapore.
The teams from Amrita were among 20 teams from across the globe in the final round.
A university release said the robotics designed by the students was part of the Humanitarian Technology (HuT) Labs of Amrita's Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
The award winning designs included a robotic coconut-tree climber, hand-orthosis robot for stroke patients, gesture-based navigational robot, staircase-cleaning robot and the autonomous room-cleaning robot. While the first four bagged prizes in the open category, the autonomous room-cleaning robot won the second prize in the under-18 category.
The robotic coconut-tree climber named Amaran was adjudged the ‘Best Mechanical Design’ and ClePa — the staircase cleaning robot — was declared the ‘Best Marketable Design’.
Rajesh Kannan Megalingam, Director, HuT Labs, said the wins gave the students exposure to international standards, designs and infrastructure in robotics, besides the opportunity to network with peer designers from across the globe.
He further said Amrita was the only university to win more than two prizes at the OMRG contest.
OMRG Asia 2016 was organised by EDU Studio Solutions, Singapore.
