This was announced by P Appa Rao, Vice-Chancellor, University of Hyderabad, at a press conference here . “In view of the excellent work done by the chair under the leadership of our university professor, Vinod Pavarala, during the first term for the last four years in promoting community media in south Asia as well as the rest of the world, Unesco has renewed the chair for another four years,” Appa Rao said. The chair is the only one of its kind in the world for Unesco.

According to Vinod Pavarala, the chair had, during the last four years, developed community radio tool kit, contributed to the framing of policy on community radio among others.
