Educational institutions are expecting massive reforms from the new government

With Modi reportedly deriving his administrative vision from the legendry Vadodara ruler Sayajirao Gaekwad, who was responsible for turning the spotlight on Sri Aurobindo, BR Ambedkar, Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan among a host of other educational greats, Gaekwad was also the first ruler to make girl child education compulsory and launch a library in every village.

Political pundits maintain that many of Modi's moves like his emphasis on girl child education, and supportive nature to book reading, are directly drawn from Gaekwad's reforms.

Sanjay Dhande, Founder Director of Mahindra Ecole Centrale has noted: ``The society expects a far better situation of jobs and employment in the coming years. In order to provide such opportunities, the new Government would have to reform the education sector, in general, and the higher education sector, in particular.''

Stating that the education reforms should focus on creating human resource with skills appropriate and suitable to the industry, as well as other sectors of society, Dhande said: ``Education should provide training that gives a solid foundation for a young person. Quality education and training should not be just the agenda, but the motto of the new government.''

The Mahindra Group entered the higher education sector with an engineering institution called Mahindra École Centrale. This is in collaboration with École Centrale Paris, one of the oldest and prestigious engineering institutions in France, and the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) Hyderabad. Mahindra École Centrale is the maiden venture of Tech Mahindra’s 100 per cent subsidiary, Mahindra Educational Institutions.
