Eminent jurist V R Krishna Iyer turned 100 today and was greeted by people from all walks of life.
As per the Malayalam calendar, his star birthday falls today, while his actual birth date is November 15.
The celebrations began today with Iyer offering prayers at the Siva temple here followed by a cake cutting ceremony and an all religion prayer organised by International Interfaith Dialogue India. ‘Ganapathy Homam’ was performed at his residence by a priest.
Prominent personalities, including Kerala High Court Acting Chief Justice Ashok Bhushan, veteran singer K J Yesudas and writer and literary critic M K Sanoo, were among the early visitors to greet the eminent jurist.
Kochi Corporation is organising an organ donation function, hosted by Kochi Health mission later today in which Justice Iyer is likely to participate.
Former President, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam is also expected to visit Justice Iyer and wish him this evening.
Justice Iyer’s two sons and their families are expected to be here with him to celebrate his birthday on Nov 15.
The four-day birthday celebrations will see the release of a postal cover and a function to honour Justice Iyer at YMCA among others, on Saturday.
Kerala Governor P Sathasivam will inaugurate a seminar on ’Present Indian Judiciary’ as part of the birthday celebrations on Nov 16. A public function will be held in the evening that day in which Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will participate.
