The entertainment and media sector in the country is expected to cross Rs 2.2 lakh crore by 2018 growing at CAGR of 15 per cent, according to a report released by CII and PwC. In 2013, the sector was estimated to be about Rs 1.12 lakh crore and grew by 19 per cent over the previous year.

The report estimates that advertising revenues are expected to grow at a CAGR of 13 per cent and cross Rs 6,00,000 crore in 2018 from Rs 35,000 crore in 2013. While the TV and print segment will remain the largest contributors, Internet advertising will emerge the third-largest segment, with a share of about 16 per cent in the total entertainment and media advertising pie, the report said.

“With the rapidly increasing adoption of smartphones and tablets, the gaming sector is fast emerging as a promising revenue source for the industry,” the report added.
