Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who is currently in the US, will promote ‘Invest in India’ in New York today. After his keynote address at the Asia Society event, ‘Make in India-The New Deal’, he will make his pitch among long-term funds and pension managers.
A special court is likely to pass its order on the ED’s plea for a non-bailabale warrant against liquor baron Vijay Mallya, wanted by multiple agencies in the ₹9,000-crore loan default case of Kingfisher Airlines. The ED is specifically looking into the ₹900-crore loan he took from IDBI.
The SBI-led lenders’ consortium is meeting today to discuss the course of action on the loan extended towards the Punjab government’s foodgrain programme. This comes in the wake of the RBI asking banks to provide for losses in the coming quarters. Reports of missing stocks from the State government godowns have put lenders in a spot.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar will hold meetings with top Chinese defence officials today. His visit comes on the back of Beijing’s move to block India’s attempts in the UN to blacklist JeM chief Masood Azhar. Parrikar is the first Indian defence minister to visit China in three years.
The WPI data for March will be released today. The data was to have been released on April 14 but had to be postponed on account of the Central government holiday. It may be recalled that the February WPI had come in at (-) 0.90 per cent.
