Taxi and autorickshaw drivers under Jai Bhagwan Taxi Rickshaw Sanghatana will go on an indefinite strike from August 29 in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai. They want the Maharashtra government to come up with rules to regulate cab aggregators such as Uber and Ola.

United Nations General Assembly president-elect Ambassador Peter Thomson will hold talks on UNSC reforms with Indian leadership. The CBI will file its report today regarding further probe in a coal scam case involving Congress leader and industrialist Naveen Jindal, ex-Minister of State for Coal Dasari Narayan Rao, former Coal Secretary H C Gupta and others. A Special Court hearing the case had earlier allowed CBI's plea that it needed to probe the case further in light of certain disclosures made by a chartered accountant, Suresh Singhal, who had sought court's nod to turn approver.

The Maharashtra Assembly will hold a special session today to ratify the Goods and Services Constitution Amendment Bill. Delhi, Bihar, Assam, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Nagaland, Himachal and Madhya Pradesh are among those that have already ratified the amendment Bill. GST is expected to help in a seamless flow of goods and services, unifying India into a single national market. The Amendment Bill will have to be ratified by at least 50 per cent of the States.

The Supreme Court will hear Gujarat Government's plea on the quota issue today. The Gujarat Government has moved the apex court over a Gujarat High Court order quashing its ordinance for 10 per cent quota to the economically backward in the unreserved category. The court held that no quota can be granted based on economic criteria as it is not allowed as per the Constitution.
